These early settlers brought with them Galloway and Hobby Horses which were natural pacers, and they eventually formed the foundation of the horse we known today as the saddlebred.
The American saddlebred possesses a strikingly beautiful way of going, and its pace is easy to ride on both short rides and long ones. The saddlebred horse is a natural show horse, and its high head and tail carriage have earned it the reputation for being the peacock of the show ring. Saddlebreds are high-stepping horses with exaggerated action. The most famous saddlebred show horse was Wing Commander, a six-time world champion.
