Miniature Horses

A miniature horse
Miniature horses are among the most charming and captivating of all horse breeds, and they are beloved by young and old alike. Due to their small size, the miniature horse cannot be ridden by anyone other than the smallest child, but they make magnificent, willing and gentle driving horses, pulling carts, wagons and sleighs, both singly and in teams, both for fun an in competition.
Average size: 9.2 hands and under
Miniature horses are also shown extensively, and in addition to driving classes they compete in a number of other events, including trail classes, obstacle courses and halter classes. There are many shows specifically for miniature horses, and they compete successfully at all breed shows as well.
In order to be classified as a miniature horse, the animal must be 9.2 hands or under. The American Miniature Horse Registry is separated into two divisions, with “A” division miniature horses standing 8.2 hands (34 inches) or under, and division “B” minis standing between 8.2 hands (34 inches) and 9.2 hands (38 inches). In most cases, owners of miniature horses will measure their animals in inches or centimeters rather than in hands though.
